Being physically fit is part of a wellness lifestyle. It is the ability to perform daily tasks vigorously and alertly, with energy left over for enjoying leisure time activities and meeting emergency demands.
Everybody knows that exercise is good for them. Why do people find excuses not to do something that can improve their quality of life? Simple, they haven’t found anything they enjoy doing or haven’t done it long enough to enjoy the benefits. Without benefits or fun you’re not going to “just do it”. Please note that exercising out of fear of illness or if you don’t find enjoyment you will lose out on the benefits.
Studies have shown that regular exercise: improves posture, strengthens the immune system, aids in digestion, relieves mild and moderate forms of clinical depression, reduces the risk of cancer and heart disease, increases your attention span and improves concentration, just to name a few.
Wellness Action Steps – whether it is dancing or swimming, golf or tennis, yoga or tai chi, hiking or biking, kayaking or curling, find activities and/or sports you enjoy. Now do it and do some exercising that helps you be better at doing it. Do one activity 2 to 5 times per week or 2, 3, 4 or 5 different activities per week. “Just do it” (while having fun of course) you will look back on this one day and you will be happy you did it.
